I will be giving a slide talk in conjunction with “The Living Image” exhibition of traditional and alternative photographs for The Halide Project. Hope to see you there!

Rip, Tear, Repeat” will discuss the works I’ve selected for the show and how they relate to the contemporary, ubiquitous “cut and paste” of digital practices.

The Living Image for The Halide Project

I juried “The Living Image” exhibition for The Halide Project, a wonderful new organization promoting traditional and alternative photography based in Philadelphia. The show at Gravy Studio & Gallery will include work by 18 artists I selected from an international call for entries. Please join me for the opening and explore the wide range of upcoming events at The Halide Project.

Dates:   January 14-18, 2013
Meets:  Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Course Description

This course introduces beginners to the creative and technical possibilities of digital photography. Through demonstrations and hands-on sessions, students learn the basics of using cameras and imaging software to produce digital photographs. Topics include camera operation, shutter speed, aperture, focal length, RAW file formats, white balance, and composition. Using Adobe Lightroom, students learn file management, image enhancement, and printing. Lectures on historical and contemporary artwork explore creative approaches to photography, and assignments build photographic skill sets. For beginners. Prerequisite: Macintosh literacy or Macintosh Basics (free of charge).
Note: a digital SLR camera capable of shooting RAW files is required.

 

Black & White Photography I: Intensive

Dates:   January 7-11 2013
Meets:  Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Course Description

This course is for beginners seeking an introduction to both camera handling and basic black-and-white darkroom techniques. Topics include camera operation, principles of exposure, film development, printing, and picture content. Weekly assignments and lectures on historical and contemporary artwork explore the technical and aesthetic possibilities of photography. The majority of class time is devoted to working in the darkroom and building printing techniques.
